What is the Military Order of the Purple Heart?

The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), sometimes just referred to as Purple Heart, is a national military veterans organization chartered by Congress over 70 years ago. The organization caters to the needs of veterans and funds welfare, rehabilitation and educational programs specifically tailored to all veterans and their families.

The funding for these causes comes mostly from the sale of items, including cars and other household items, donated to the Purple Heart.

What is the Purple Heart?

Before going any further, lets just see what exactly is the Purple Heart.

The Purple Heart is a US military decoration awarded in the name of the President of the United States to anyone that has been wounded or killed in active duty. The Purple Heart has been awarded since April 5, 1917.

The Purple Heart was first established by George Washington and was originally named the Badge of Military Merit. It is the oldest of any military decoration still in existence.

The Purple Heart medals being awarded today are part of the 500000 medals done for WW II but that were never used.

The Purple Heart defers from other medals in that one is not recommended for a Purple Heart but instead eligible once wounded or killed while serving.

Charles Bronson and Oliver Stone are two celebrities which have received Purple Hearts.

Why donate to the Purple Heart?

Donations to the Purple Heart are tax deductible. Most of the time you are able to get a larger tax deduction than you would have received if you sold the items while avoiding all the trouble associated with the sale.

By donating to the Purple Heart you are also helping veterans and their families.

How to donate to the Purple Heart

You can donate usable clothing, household items and cars to the Purple Heart. Items are picked-up at your house at no cost to you through the Purple Heart pickup service. The only requirement is that the items you donate be in usable condition.

If you which to donate a car you can fill out an online form or call the organization´s toll free number. Once this is done you will be contacted by a towing company to arrange for removal of your car at a time of your convenience and at no cost to you. The Purple Heart will send you a tax deductible donation receipt after the car is received.

There have been over 500000 cars donated to the Purple Heart.

If you wish, you can also donate you car to charity instead of the Purple Heart.

A purple heart donation is one of the better places to donate a car. Simply put the cause is a very noble on at this point in time.

I was shocked to see a Purple Heart truck parked out in front of the Villlage Thrift stor on Stemmers Run Road and Old Eastern Ave around 1PM on Sunday May 27th. Men were unloading the truck and 50 feet away another man was selling racks of clothing. I hope someone will care enough to look into this shady practice.
